The Holiday makeup looks to try this Christmas

Festive periods particularly Christmas generates a lot of buzz in this part of the  world, maybe it is because it coincides with the end of the year or it’s such a fun holiday what with endless gifting, snacking and road trips to reconnect with friends and family.

A lot of activities are scheduled at Christmas; weddings, office parties, soirées and so on such that even the most minimalistic chic may find she needs more than translucent powder to get by in the holidays

I am up for switching up my look from time to time and am definitely looking to try any of this 6 makeup looks that are guaranteed to break you out of a makeup rut and ensure that you are the belle of each party you grace this period

1.Bold and dark:

we truly can’t get enough of the dark lips trend particularly the dark purples and the dark reds and here is to hoping it continues in 2016. Precision and staying power is key to achieving this high-octane lip color.

My Beauty tips: Start off by moisturizing lips with a lip balm, trust me, flaky, dry lips are a no- no for this look

In the case of dark lipstick, I line my lips completely with a matching lip liner and apply with a lip brush for precision, I find that totally lining lips helps the lip color stay longer and using lip brush keeps the look precise

My go- to lip color of choice for the perfect matte dark lips has to be liquid lipstick; it sets quickly so you may need to work fast while using them

Let your bold lips do the talking by highlighting cheek bones and perfecting your skin base with a good coverage foundation and concealer

There is a dark lip shade for everyone; as it is universally flattering on every skin tone and  looks ultra glam and sophisticated but if you are aiming for a youthful look you may stay away from this trend  as they are found to be quite ageing. I am definitely not taking my own advice on this.

2.Gold Eye shadow:

If there is a much loved eye shadow of choice for Christmas or any other party season, it has to be gold first then metallic shades, a close second.

My beauty tips: Apply gold shadow on the inner corners of your eyes to brighten your peepers as well as add dimension to a neutral Smokey eye

Line your waterline with a gold eye pencil instead of white for a wide awake eye effect

Add drama with faux lashes and jet black liner

3.Glossy Red lips

Elevate a basic red lip this season by adding gloss.

My beauty tips: Fill in lips with a red liner and top off with gloss.

Keep the rest of your makeup pared down, possibly a matte face with groomed brows and a cat eye only.

Glossy lips have been noticeably absent in Beauty this year but that’s not to say you can’t rock this look as an alternative to the matte ones which are a bit drying by the way.

Also, I find keeping my hair away from my face ensures that I don’t get any makeup malfunction

Do carry a tube of gloss and a quaint mirror for touch-ups (getting gloss on chin and food stuck on your lips are common gloss disasters to look out for)

4.Pink matte lips:

This is an all year round favorite, a matte pink pout instantly brightens the face and can be less intimidating than perhaps, a deep purple or a red lip

My beauty tips: Lay off the blush to avoid looking clown-ish

Do pair two shades of pink lipstick for a beautiful Ombre effect

A subtle Smokey eye keeps it fresh or for sassier options, line the top lids with teal/blue eyeliner

5.Glitter :

This is such a Christmassy theme, really what is Christmas without glitter but be cautious when it comes to using glitter as makeup , I try to keep it simple by

Either focusing the glitter on my upper lid only then line my lids top and bottom with a gel based or pencil eyeliner

Or alternately using the glitter as eyeliner by lining my upper lid with a fine liner brush and using  glitter adhesive to keep the glitter liner in place

Prevent glitter fall outs by doing your eye makeup first, skin second

6.Nude/Glowy Makeup:

For more natural makeup options this party season, you can’t go wrong with the no makeup -makeup look

My beauty tips: Prime your skin with a face primer to ensure that makeup stays on all day

Dust highlighter on décolletage and cheek bones for a lit from within glow.

So as not to look washed out, do apply a pinky nude lipstick instead of the paler options

A brown eye shadow through the crease of the eye as well as a gold lip colour with gloss adds an x-factor to the look
